What it does

Hydroxypinacolone retinoate (HPR) is a retinoic acid ester that binds directly to retinoid receptors in the skin — unlike retinol, which must be converted through multiple steps. This means it is more efficient and significantly less irritating than equivalent retinol concentrations. Increasingly used in products marketed as "gentle retinoid" alternatives.

Benefits
  • Directly activates retinoid receptors — no conversion needed
  • Anti-ageing: stimulates collagen, reduces fine lines
  • Brightens skin tone and improves texture
  • Significantly gentler than retinol at equivalent efficacy
  • Suitable for retinol-sensitive skin types
