Witch Hazel
Hamamelis Virginiana Extract
Also known as: Hamamelis Extract · Witch Hazel Water
Oil controlSoothing
“A botanical astringent that tightens pores and balances oily skin — but choose alcohol-free.”
What it does
Witch hazel is derived from the bark and leaves of the Hamamelis virginiana shrub. It contains tannins that act as astringents, temporarily tightening the skin and reducing sebum production. It also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties from its polyphenol content. However, many commercial witch hazel products contain high concentrations of alcohol, which can be drying and irritating — distilled, alcohol-free versions are preferable.
Benefits
- Reduces excess sebum and temporarily minimises pore appearance
- Anti-inflammatory and calming for acne-prone skin
- Antioxidant polyphenols protect against environmental damage
- Can reduce swelling and puffiness

- ⚠Avoid if you have very dry or eczema-prone skin
How to use
