What it does

Urea is a naturally occurring compound found in the skin's Natural Moisturising Factor (NMF). At low concentrations (5–10%), it acts as a potent humectant, drawing water into the skin and softening the stratum corneum. At higher concentrations (20–40%), it has keratolytic properties, gently dissolving the bonds between dead skin cells.

Benefits
  • Deeply hydrates and softens rough, dry skin
  • At higher concentrations, gently exfoliates without physical scrubbing
  • Restores the skin's natural moisturising factor
  • Particularly effective for keratosis pilaris, eczema, and very dry skin
  • Enhances penetration of other topical ingredients

How to use

Apply 5–10% urea moisturisers once or twice daily on dry areas. Higher-concentration formulations (20%+) are for body use or specific dermatological applications.

Typical concentration: 5–10% for hydration; 20–40% for keratolytic (body) use
