What it does

Glycerin (glycerol) is a naturally derived polyol that is one of the most effective and well-studied humectants in cosmetic science. It draws moisture from the air and deeper skin layers to the stratum corneum, and also strengthens the skin barrier by facilitating aquaporin water channel activity. Present in virtually every well-formulated moisturiser.

Benefits
  • Highly effective at drawing moisture to the skin surface
  • Supports skin barrier function and integrity
  • Non-irritating and compatible with all skin types and formulations
  • Improves texture and reduces the appearance of dryness

How to use

Apply on damp skin as part of a moisturiser or serum. Seal with an emollient or occlusive to prevent moisture loss.

Typical concentration: 1–10% in most formulations; also found as the base in many glycerin-rich moisturisers
