“A fatty alcohol that thickens creams and softens skin — nothing like the drying kind.”
What it does
Despite its name, cetyl alcohol is a fatty alcohol derived from palm or coconut oil — not the drying type of alcohol. It acts as an emollient, thickener, and emulsion stabiliser. It conditions skin without the irritation associated with denatured alcohols and is well-tolerated by most skin types.
Benefits
- Softens and smooths skin as an emollient
- Stabilises product formulations (creams and lotions)
- Non-irritating and gentle on sensitive skin
- Adds a rich, creamy texture to moisturisers
