What it does

Betaine (trimethylglycine) is a naturally occurring compound found in sugar beet. It acts as an osmoprotectant — protecting cells from osmotic stress — as well as a humectant that draws water to the skin. It has mild soothing properties and is widely used in Korean skincare formulations for its lightweight hydration and skin-calming effect.

Benefits
  • Lightweight, non-sticky hydration
  • Soothes irritation and reduces stinging from actives
  • Stabilises the skin's water balance (osmoprotection)
  • Works synergistically with other humectants
