What it does

Alpha arbutin is a naturally occurring glucoside derived from bearberry plants. It inhibits tyrosinase — the enzyme responsible for melanin production — in a gentle, controlled way. Unlike hydroquinone (its parent compound), alpha arbutin is stable and significantly less irritating, making it accessible for long-term use. The alpha form is more stable and potent than beta arbutin.

Benefits
  • Fades post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and sun damage
  • More stable and gentler than hydroquinone with a comparable mechanism
  • Suitable for sensitive skin at appropriate concentrations
  • Effective for brightening uneven skin tone
