Octocrylene
Also known as: 2-Ethylhexyl 2-Cyano-3,3-Diphenyl Acrylate
UV filterSunscreen
“A UVB/UVA filter that also stabilises avobenzone in sunscreen formulas.”
What it does
Octocrylene is a chemical UV filter that absorbs UVB and short-wave UVA radiation. Importantly, it also acts as a photostabiliser for avobenzone, preventing its degradation in sunlight. It contributes to water resistance in sunscreens and has a good safety profile at cosmetic concentrations.
Benefits
- UVB and short UVA protection
- Stabilises avobenzone — extends its protective lifespan
- Contributes to water resistance
