Sodium Hydroxide
Sodium Hydroxide
Also known as: Lye · Caustic Soda · NaOH
pH adjuster
“A pH balancer present in almost every skincare product — completely safe at trace levels.”
What it does
Sodium hydroxide (lye) is a strong alkali used in tiny amounts to adjust the pH of skincare formulations. Despite its industrial reputation, the trace quantities in cosmetics are neutralised during formulation and are safe. It is present in nearly every moisturiser, serum, and cleanser to maintain the correct pH range for skin and actives.
Benefits
- Maintains optimal pH for skin and active ingredients
- Fully neutralised in finished formulations
