Butyloctyl Salicylate
Butyloctyl Salicylate
Also known as: BOS
SolventSkin protectant
“A solvent that helps sunscreen filters dissolve evenly.”
What it does
Butyloctyl salicylate is used mainly in sunscreens, where it dissolves crystalline UV filters like avobenzone so they spread evenly and stay stable. It also boosts SPF slightly and improves texture. Despite the salicylate name it is not an exfoliant and does not behave like salicylic acid.
Benefits
- Keeps UV filters evenly dispersed and stable
- Improves how a sunscreen feels and spreads
